Mallett Whacks Butt-head Cartoonist Pastis

Frazz Comic 03-22-12

In the days when I faithfully read the comic Pearls Before Swine, I will admit, I was often amused by its crudity and violence. That was before I became aware of Stephan Pastis and his cretinous view of recreational bicyclists– basically, that they should be run down by car drivers.
I won’t link to his anti-cyclist comic strips because I don’t want to donate any traffic to him. There’s nothing more gutless and evil than threatening cyclists using your 6,000 pound SUV as a weapon.

Jef Mallett, another syndicated cartoonist and a triathlete, is regularly exposed to life-threatening bad behavior by motorists, as is anyone who exercises the right to ride a bike on public roads, myself included. Check out today’s Frazz comic strip. Go Jef!

By the way, on April 4th some amazing improvements in the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code become law, not least of which is the 4-foot rule. More on this soon!

Take your choice: Pastis is crude and Mallett is sanctimonious.

Walt– As a cyclist and a Mallet fan, I can’t agree that Mallett is sanctimonious– but thanks for your comment.

Did you see the latest Frazz, where he shows a bunch of cyclists blowing a stop sign and says he wants to scream at them? Pretty truthful and even-handed, seems to me.

  3. Walt says:

I did. Not terribly funny but shows an evenhanded approach.

Of the two, Frazz is the better strip and I do enjoy it. However, one doesn’t have to squint to see that in it fat teachers are clueless and borderline incompetent. As a well-rounded person myself I’ll only cop to clueless.
